Signing in
Signing in with Google is optional. If you do, we keep the identifier, email address, display name and avatar URL Google gives us, so that saved reports can be shown back to you. If you do not sign in, none of this is stored.
What is collected
Standard web server logs: IP address, request time, page requested and user agent. They exist for rate limiting and to keep the service running, and are not used to build a profile or sold to anyone.
Cookies and tracking
No advertising cookies and no analytics cookies. Three cookies can appear here: the one that keeps you signed in, the one that remembers your language, and g_state, which Google's sign-in library sets to remember that you dismissed its prompt. The third is Google's rather than ours, and exists because the sign-in button is on the page.
One third-party script does load on every page. It belongs to Travelpayouts (tp-em.com), the affiliate network we work through: it confirms this site is ours, and it keeps the links we earn commission on working when a browser extension would otherwise break them. Checked on a clean browser, it stores nothing — no cookie, no local storage, no database. It is capable of storing, so this page is checked again whenever the script's role here changes. It is not used for analytics or to serve advertising.
If you follow one of the affiliate links described below, the merchant will set its own cookies on its own site.
Affiliate links
Some links in a report are affiliate links: if you book or buy through one, we are paid a commission by the merchant. Every such link is marked “Ad”.
No commission, and no rate of commission, changes a score, the order facilities are listed in, or anything a report says. Scores come from OpenStreetMap data and the formula published under Data and sources. Nothing about you reaches a partner until you click.
Third parties
Facility data is served from our own database, rebuilt monthly from the whole of OpenStreetMap Japan. Building a report contacts nobody.
What you type is not sent anywhere either: stations, neighbourhoods and landmarks come from the same database. The map behind the page is not somebody else's map service — it is a single map file in our own storage, read directly by your browser.
So searching, building a report and drawing the map are all served from here. Three things do leave this site, and each is described elsewhere on this page: the Travelpayouts script above, which loads on every page; Google's sign-in library, which loads even if you never sign in, because the sign-in button sits in the header; and following an affiliate link, which takes you to the merchant.
